Following a generous bequest left to Holy Rood Church, Packington, one of the conditions attached to the gift was that funds be used to create a lectern or display celebrating the church’s long and layered history. ARUBA was appointed to take on the project in full – from initial creative through to artwork, production and installation of a single lectern panel for the church.

Parts of Holy Rood are believed to date back to the late 11th century, with the church’s first recorded priest noted in the Domesday Book of 1086. Nearly a thousand years of history like that inevitably holds a few hidden gems – details easily walked past by visitors and even regular congregation members. Our job was to bring some of those overlooked stories to light. Among the highlights featured on the lectern are the church’s mysterious “steps to nowhere,” and the tale of a vicar whose destruction of an earlier church building forced the construction of a new one.

It was a pleasure to help Holy Rood Church put such a meaningful bequest to good use, giving visitors a new way to discover the stories hidden within its walls and grounds.
